A 30-minute distillation of Lav Diaz’s signature long-take style, this has his frequent actor Hazel Orencio wandering in a forest looking for her husband. There’s a nice feeling to it, and it is, as ever, shot in luminous black-and-white. The historical context is largely unknown to me (it’s a period piece), but it suggests a great sadness with relative economy.
